Jamestown

Jamestown was surveyed in 1871 to service the surrounding highlands. The town has a population of 1352. Prime farming activities include sheep, cereal and legume crops. The Bundaleer Forest is situated south of the town where Radiata Pine is grown. This is both a working forest as well as being used for recreational pursuits such as picnics, walking trails and concerts. A sawmill is also established on the outskirts of the town. The town has also become a hub for companies involved in the construction of wind farms. A sheep sales yard is established north of the town. Council has been working on improving the look of the town and preparing for the future by developing an Industrial Park. Most blocks in stage one are sold and stage two should not be too far away. The council is keen to attract new residents and new residential estates are being developed. The town is home to a wide range of retails stores and three car yards. Jamestown has primary and secondary schools, very good health services, dentist and a hospital, plus a new indoor sports stadium. The town has a strong aero club and a sealed airstrip. All in all Jamestown is a great rural town with everything you need for day to day living and an enjoyable lifestyle.
